As a Miami native, Michelle’s work is inspired by sunshine and saturated color. Growing up in a French family where travel to France was a summer ritual, Michelle’s curiosity for art and culture began early. She received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Art Education from Florida International University. Inspiring creativity with students in underserved communities, including young adults with intellectual disabilities has enabled Michelle to share her passion for art and art history. In addition to teaching art, Michelle maintained a business painting murals in both public and private spaces. Currently living in Charlotte, N.C., Michelle is a docent at The Mint Museum and facilitates art workshops for pediatric patients and their caretakers at Levine Childrens Hospital. Michelle’s paintings and mixed-media works have been included in juried exhibits locally including McColl Center and in California at Las Laguna Gallery.
Now more than ever with our world paused we need to understand and celebrate our differences. Now more than ever we need each other. My intention is to portray a message of connection and shared humanity. Creating balance between the recognizable and the invented in these compositions allows me to be guided by intuition and achieves a creative tension similar to Parker J. Palmer’s description of hope “…holding a creative tension between what is and what could and should be…” There is an improvisational aspect in the process of arranging and composing these mixed-media canvases that speaks to our need, now more than ever, to change the way we live when it has been revealed that our world is in need of change.
