Before woodworking, I was a painter. Painting seemed like the best place to sort out my complex ideas, many of which were literally written into the surface through layers and layers of painted text. Woodworking gave me a chance to quiet down. I enjoy getting lost in the labor, and I love how immediately the care that I put into a work can be sensed by a viewer. I also enjoy finding ways to incorporate technology into my process. Much of my work is designed and aided by 3D modeling, CNC routing, and laser cutting. The final grinding and sanding is always done by hand. The results are never perfect, but the process of enduring through imperfection for me is a metaphor for life itself.
